The Salesforce Ecosystem in 2025

With 25 years since its founding and thousands of customers globally, Salesforce is more than just a CRM in the cloud. What makes Salesforce big and in the position of power is the completeness of its offerings.

Key Information About the Company

Salesforce was founded in 1999 and is led by Marc Benioff, who is the CEO, Chair, and Co-Founder. The company employs over 76,000 employees globally. [1]

Salesforce consistently ranks among the top tech companies with impressive financial growth. As per the FY25 Annual Report, the company had $37.9 billion in revenue, up 9% year over year. [2] It serves thousands of customers, from small startups to over ninety percent of Fortune 500 companies.

Salesforce is headquartered in San Francisco, where it also organises an annual company event, Dreamforce, which happens every year in the fall. It brings together the Salesforce community, unveiling innovations, networking opportunities, and learning experiences.

As of May 2025, Salesforce had a market cap of around $260 billion USD, being amongst the world’s most valuable companies. [3]

Over the years, Salesforce has built a vast ecosystem around its name and established itself as a leader in the CRM market.

When talking about the Salesforce ecosystem, I’m referring to the following key areas [4]:

  • The company and its products
  • Partners
  • Customers
  • Community

In the following sections, I’ll write about how these work together and what this means for you – regardless of which part of this ecosystem you live in.

The Product Offering

Listing and explaining all the Salesforce products would be a huge effort, and the list keeps changing with mergers and acquisitions. However, when referring to Salesforce core products, most professionals will first think about Sales and Service Cloud.

Also a part of the core platform are products such as Data Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Salesforce Industries. [5] The Salesforce Platform, built on Hyperforce, enables the core products to be customised and tailored to fit business needs.

There are other Salesforce products that were acquired through acquisitions that integrate with the core products, such as Marketing Cloud, Slack, Tableau, MuleSoft, Quip, and Commerce Cloud.

To connect Salesforce with other systems and services, there is MuleSoft, an integration platform which Salesforce acquired in 2018.

Heroku, another Salesforce acquisition, enables developers to build, deploy, and scale applications that extend Salesforce capabilities, making it easier to create custom apps, integrations, and customer-facing experiences.

And if the feature you need does not come out of the box, there is AppExchange – Salesforce’s marketplace for third-party applications and integrations. On the AppExchange, businesses can find apps that enhance Salesforce functionality or build and sell their own solutions.

Agentforce

During the Dreamforce 2024 event, Salesforce announced Agentforce.

Agentforce is a digital labor platform designed to empower businesses with autonomous AI agents capable of executing specialised tasks across various departments. These agents utilise large language models (LLMs) to understand context, make decisions, and perform actions autonomously, enhancing productivity and efficiency. Agentforce is customisable and integrates seamlessly with the Salesforce ecosystem, allowing businesses to tailor AI agents to their specific needs.

By introducing Agentforce, Salesforce aims to revolutionise the modern workforce by augmenting human labor with digital counterparts. This integration of AI agents is designed to streamline operations, reduce manual workloads, and enable employees to focus on higher-value tasks. For instance, in customer service, Agentforce can handle a wide range of service issues autonomously, providing 24/7 support and freeing up human agents to address more complex inquiries. In sales, AI agents can assist in drafting emails, creating quotes, and initiating personalised nurture campaigns, thereby enhancing productivity.

Agentforce is deeply integrated with existing Salesforce products, leveraging tools like Data Cloud to access and utilise data across all systems and sources within an organisation. [6]

Partners

Salesforce’s partner ecosystem plays an important role in implementing Salesforce solutions for customers. Salesforce partners include consulting firms, system integrators, and independent software vendors (ISVs). They assist businesses in tailoring Salesforce solutions to meet specific industry needs, ensuring that organisations can maximise the value of their Salesforce investments. About 70% of Salesforce implementations are led by credentialed partners. [7]

The Salesforce partner ecosystem is vast and continually growing. As of recent analyses, there are approximately 3,000 consulting and services partners listed on the Salesforce AppExchange, reflecting a 20% increase from the year before. [8]

Customers

Salesforce customers range from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, spanning industries such as finance, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, technology, and government. Organisations of all sizes rely on Salesforce to streamline customer relationship management (CRM), automate processes, and drive business growth.

Customers stick with Salesforce because of its robust ecosystem, continuous innovation, and strong community support. The platform evolves rapidly, integrating AI-powered tools, automation, and industry-specific solutions to help businesses stay competitive. Additionally, with features like seamless integrations, powerful analytics, and mobile accessibility, Salesforce empowers businesses to provide personalised customer experiences and improve operational efficiency. [9]

Trailblazers Community

This has covered, so far, the main ecosystem areas I’ve mentioned at the beginning of this article: the company, the products, and the customers.

None of those can function without another. And it wouldn’t mean much if they were not interwoven with a Trailblazers Community throughout. This makes the Salesforce ecosystem alive.

The vast Salesforce Partner Network and Trailblazer Community further enhance customer loyalty by offering continuous learning, expert support, and a collaborative environment for problem-solving and best practices.

Salesforce provides learning opportunities through Trailhead, Salesforce’s free online learning platform. Trailhead also helps professionals to get certified by offering credential-specific learning paths. Users can earn badges, complete hands-on challenges, and gain industry-recognised certifications.

The community-driven approach allows individuals at all skill levels to ask questions, exchange ideas, and contribute solutions. The Salesforce Community is a vital part of the Salesforce ecosystem, bringing together users, developers, administrators, and partners from around the world. This community fosters collaboration, learning, and problem-solving through various channels such as Trailblazer Community Groups and events like Dreamforce.

What Does This Mean to You?

The Salesforce ecosystem is full of opportunities, and it is here to stay. Whether you’re a business owner, a developer, a consultant, or an aspiring professional, the Salesforce ecosystem has a place for you.

  • Looking to upskill? Learn on Trailhead and get certified.
  • Interested in networking? Join the Trailblazer community and attend Salesforce events.
